Mike Veldstra — 維德斯泰騰

Mike Veldstra is a director, producer, and writer working at the intersection of Taiwan and the world. Born in Tainan and raised in Rotterdam, he carries two cultures in equal measure — and has spent his career making work that lives in the space between them.

After studying New Media Art at the Willem de Kooning Academy, he returned to Tainan to learn his roots, and never stopped filming. Over more than a decade he has built a body of work that spans short films, documentary, commercial production, and feature narrative — always grounded in the textures of Taiwanese life.

His debut feature, 永生花 / The Eternal Flower (2018), was produced for PTS Taiwan. As Executive Producer on Invisible Nation (2024) — Vanessa Hope’s intimate portrait of President Tsai Ing-wen — he helped bring one of Taiwan’s most urgent stories to international audiences, with US theatrical distribution by Abramorama. His documentary work includes producing The Yani Tseng Story (球后重生曾雅妮) with 408 Films, 100Chapters and Select Entertainment (Taiwan) — directed by Frank W. Chen (Late Life: The Chien-Ming Wang Story). Commercial work includes clients such as MTV Holland, WBC Premier 12, Brothers Baseball, and Bros Sports Marketing. He is a Cineformosa Jury Award winner for short film.

He is currently directing BTN / 躁·音之下 / Beneath the Noise — a music-driven sports documentary following 3 Taiwanese baseball players through their careers and up to the 2026 World Baseball Classic, translating each athlete’s movement into original composition. His second feature, 值班 / On Duty, is in development: a Taiwanese noir set inside a Hsinchu pharmaceutical factory, where a dying night security guard discovers that writing a novel is the only way he can become the man he needs to be.

He is based in Taiwan and works in Mandarin, English, and Dutch.

關於導演

維德斯泰騰（Mike Veldstra）是一位導演、監製與編劇，長期活躍於台灣與國際電影的交匯之處。生於台南，成長於鹿特丹，他身上同時承載著兩種文化的重量——而他的創作，始終生長在這兩者之間的縫隙裡。

畢業於鹿特丹威廉·德·庫寧藝術學院新媒體藝術系後，他回到出生地台南尋根，此後從未停止拍攝。超過十年來，他在短片、紀錄片、商業製作與劇情長片之間持續耕耘，作品始終以台灣的生活質地為根基。

劇情長片處女作《永生花》（2018）為公共電視台（PTS）製作。《看不見的國家》（Invisible Nation，2024）以美國院線發行，他以監製身份參與其中，協助將台灣最重要的故事之一帶向國際觀眾。紀錄片作品包括與408 Films、100Chapters及精選娛樂（台灣）共同製作的《球后重生曾雅妮》，由陳懷恩（Frank W. Chen，《後勁：王建民》導演）執導。商業合作包括MTV Holland、WBC經典賽、兄弟象及兄弟體育行銷等客戶。曾獲台灣國際紀錄片影展（Cineformosa）短片評審團大獎。

目前執導中的《躁·音之下》（BTN / Beneath the Noise）是一部以音樂為核心的體育紀錄片，跟隨三位台灣棒球選手走過其臷涿生涯，直至2026年世界棒球經典賽，將每位球員的身體律動轉化為原創音樂。第二部劇情長片《值班》正開發中：故事設於新竹生醫園區，一名身患重病的夜班警衛發現，寫一部小說，是他成為自己所需要的那個人的唯一方式。

現居台灣，以中文、英文及荷蘭文工作。
